15:45 16:30 Systems Director Navigator by Gottfried Schimunek
V6R1 brings a major new interface for managing the IBM i. Called IBM Systems Director Navigator for IBM i (or i5/OS), this browser based Web console is built right into the operating system. Nothing needed on your PC other than a browser. Just point your browser to the 2001 port of your IBM i to launch this new Web console. This console contains over 300 Web enabled IBM i functions! Much of what previously was found in System i Navigator has been included, along with some new functions only available in this Web console. This new Web console is ready to go, it will automatically start once the system is started. Learn about this interface and how it makes administering your system easier today and in the future.

The IBM i integrated Web application server introduces a Web-servlet container into IBM i. This Web container includes the basics for getting Servlet and JSP applications up and running quickly and effectively on the Web. The integrated Web application server is a good place to prototype new applications or to run existing small-footprint or low-use applications. You can consider the integrated Web application server as an entry point to the Web. Administration is easy and straight forward using the Web Administration for i graphical user interface (GUI). Since this Web container is part of the operating system, there are no additional products to install and maintenance is handled via PTFs. Learn how this friendly Web container can quickly and easily get you started on the road to the Web.

11:00 - 12:15 Rational Developer for i (RDi) by Claus Weiss
Rational Developer for i (RDi) now includes the graphical Application Diagram and Screen Designer tools previously only shipped in the advanced edition of WDSC. The Application Diagram creates diagrams that represent the structure of RPG, COBOL and CL applications; providing both a call graph view and an ILE bindings view. The Screen Designer Technology Preview provides a graphical, point and click way to design DDS display files. This session provides a demonstration of the many current and upcoming features of the Application Diagram and Screen Designer, including their seamless integration with the latest RDi tools, such as the Remote Systems Lpex editor.

RDi SOA is a software bundle that combines two products: RDi and RBD. RDi is you standard tooling for doing Edit/Compile/Debug for IBM i RPG and COBOL programs. RBD introduces the newest language, EGL, targeting IBM i. EGL is IBM Rational's newest business development language. EGL extends the programming workbench with a simplified high-level programming language that enables business oriented developers who have little or no experience with Java, Web technologies or Service Oriented Architecture to create enterprise-class applications and services quickly and easily. Code generators automatically transform EGL into Java, COBOL, Web Services and deployment artifacts to support the broadest variety of business application and platform requirements.

Chuck Wallace:
Chuck Wallace joined IBM as a Systems Engineer in the General Systems Division in 1978, after graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Business Administration. From 1978 – 1999 Chuck served in various customers facing positions, including Systems Engineer, Market Specialist, and Client Representative. He implemented industry solutions, such as MAPICS and DMAS, on S/32, S/34, S/36, S/38, and AS/400. Chuck was named a Certified Professional in Client Sever in 1995. In 1999 Chuck joined the Rochester Executive Briefing Center. His primarily responsibility was the AS/400 Trends and Directions presentations and Business Intelligence. Chuck was named Program Director/Manager of the Briefing Center in 2003. In addition to his management duties, Chuck presents System i Product Overview and Strategy presentations to customers and partners around the world.
Doug Mack:
Doug Mack is a DB2 and Business Intelligence Specialist in IBM's Power Systems organization. Doug's twenty-eight year career with IBM spans many roles, including System/38 and AS/400 microcode development, AS/400 Systems Engineer, and Data Warehouse Specialist on the iSeries Worldwide Executive Sales Team. Doug is a featured speaker at User Group conferences and meetings, IBM Technical conferences, and Executive Briefings.
Gottfried Schimunek:
Gottfried Schimunek is a Senior IT Architect with IBM and has been taking a lead role in application and product development projects for over 25 years. Currently he is the Program Manager and Technical Consultant for IBM i on the ISV Enablement team in Rochester, Minnesota. His primary interests are performance measurement analysis and capacity planning of applications. Claus Weiss:
Claus Weiss is an Advisory Software Consultant with the Rational Software System i – Ecosystem team at the IBM Canada Toronto Laboratory. He has degrees in industrial engineering and computer science from the University of Hamburg in Germany. He worked as a systems engineer with IBM Germany and joined the IBM Toronto Laboratory in 1984. He was a developer and team leader for System/38 development tools. He has been a member of the Design Control Group for the AS/400 development tools. He has worked as a planner for iSeries Application Development for the past 10 years specializing in Visual Tools. Claus is a frequent speaker at COMMON and other iSeries conferences. He is a six-time winner of COMMON’s Speaker Excellence award. He is the lead author of the book Understanding the IBM WebFacing Tool, published by IBM Press, and has co-authored several IBM Redbooks.
